hs-CRP
A sensitive marker of systemic inflammation — and a cardiovascular risk indicator.
What is it
High-sensitivity C-reactive protein measures low-grade systemic inflammation. It is a more sensitive version of the standard CRP test, designed to detect lower levels relevant to cardiovascular research.
Why it's measured
hs-CRP has been associated with cardiovascular risk in large epidemiologic studies and is included in some cardiovascular risk calculators.
Reference range
Standard laboratory reference
< 1.0 mg/L
Reference ranges vary by laboratory. Your individual reference range will appear on your test report and should be interpreted by your physician in the context of your overall health profile.
What results may indicate
Elevated
Values 1–3 mg/L (intermediate) and >3 mg/L (high) have been associated with elevated cardiovascular risk in research literature.
Lower
Is generally considered favorable.
These associations are general. They are not a personal diagnosis or prediction. Discuss your individual results with your physician in the context of your full health profile.
When it's measured
Used in cardiovascular risk evaluation. Acute infection or injury can transiently elevate values.
